Search and Recovery

At some point in your diving career, you or your buddy will either lose or find something underwater and the knowledge and skills you gain in the Search and Recovery Diver course will help you when you do! Learn to perform different search patterns with the help of ropes and compasses, and to plan search and recovery operations in a team. You will also learn the correct handling of one or more lifting bags in order to bring heavy objects securely to the surface. During this two-day, 4 dive course you will:

  • Do swimming search patterns using your compass and natural navigation.
  • Practice locating large and small objects using various search patterns
  • Practice planning and Organizing Your Search and Recovery Operation
  • Experience limited visibility water conditions
  • Learn potential hazards of underwater search and recovery
  • Practice techniques for safe rigging and recovery of items using lift bags.

The academics are done via eLearning (which is included in the cost of the course) and will be sent to you via email shortly after you register (the email comes directly from PADI and may filter into your junk inbox). Within the eLearning are digital forms (liability release, medical release, etc.). Make sure to fill out the digital forms PRIOR to the date of your course. If you answer YES to any of the questions on the medical form, you will need a doctor's signature to participate in the class.
 

Prerequisites:

- Must be at least 12 years old.

- Advanced Open Water certification and/or Underwater Navigator certification.
